Health

Good health is an essential ingredient for individual success and a thriving community. Healthy kids are more likely to succeed in school. The whole community will flourish when all of our residents have access to public parks, playgrounds, healthy foods and quality healthcare. We are committed to more than short-term charity for a few; we are committed to lasting solutions that build opportunity for all.

United Way’s health goal is to enable individuals and families to improve their health. This requires increasing access to health care and health insurance, but also creating healthy communities, increasing physical activity and access to healthy food, and ensuring that children and families get off to a healthy start.

United Ways improve community health directly through programs and indirectly by addressing factors that affect people’s health, like education, income, and environment. Health affects individuals and families at all stages of life and is the foundation for successful education and employment.

When all members of the community support an environment that is conducive to healthy living, children perform better in school, adults perform better in the workplace and the community saves on health care costs.

The health of individuals is a strong indicator of the health of a community. Achieving and maintaining good health is important during all stages of life, from conception through childhood, into adulthood and through older age. To improve the health of our community, we must all become more aware of health risks, starting from before birth. Whether it is a teen struggling to make the right decision, a senior in need of home health care, or a survivor of abuse seeking a safer environment, United Way is fighting to improve the quality of life for all.
